Chronicle editor urges Queensland Premier to visit Toowoomba in wake of youth crime crisis

How many Queenslanders have to die or be left with lifelong scars before we see real, decisive and meaningful legislative change? Chronicle Editor urges Annatascia Palaszczuk to come to Toowoomba in face of youth crime crisis.

Dear Annastacia Palaszczuk, the beautiful community that Toowoomba residents call home is in the grips of a youth crime epidemic, and we urge you to come here and hear for yourself from the people who are suffering at the hands of juvenile offenders.

The alleged Monday afternoon attack on an elderly man in broad daylight at Grand Central Shopping Centre is the latest in a long list of horrific crimes against innocent and hardworking people.

Detectives have already braced the public to expect the victim to not survive his injuries.

How many Queenslanders have to die or be left with lifelong scars before we see real, decisive and meaningful legislative change? Our community and our state desperately needs and deserves leadership that will introduce wide-sweeping reforms and, just as importantly, be transparent about a timeline as to when we can expect to see the dial turned on youth crime.

Anything less is not real leadership, and anything less is cowardice.

Leave your thoughts on what the Queensland Government should do to create real action on youth crime in the comments below.
