The head of the Northern Territory’s only university is ending his tenure after almost six years of “unwavering leadership”.

Charles Darwin University Chancellor Paul Henderson AO will not seek an extension to his role in March 2025.

CDU Vice-Chancellor and president Scott Bowman thanked the former chief minister for his work with the university since February 2019.

Mr Bowman said the outgoing chancellor led CDU through the City Deals initiative, Covid disruption, and several funding ventures such as the medical school.

“I’m sure the entire University Council, staff and students will join me in wishing Paul well in the next chapter of his life,” Mr Bowman said.

“We have been immensely fortunate to have had Paul as CDU’s Chancellor for six years.

“He has generously donated his time without remuneration, and I am sure he will remain connected with the university.”

CDU has already formed a Chancellor Selection Committee – chaired by Dr Ruth Schubert – to begin the search for a replacement.

“The appointment of a new chancellor is a key priority for the council and further information about the call for expressions of interest will be provided in the upcoming period,” Dr Schubert said.
