A source in Mission Beach said Efron, 33, had been in the area a few days ago and was now most likely spending some time in Cairns.
On March 9 he shared a post to social media depicting him and co-star Darin Olien in orange headbands and face paint as part of a traditional Indigenous Australian ceremony.
“Here we go- Down to Earth season 2! Netflix Darin Olien,” the caption read.
Starring Efron and produced by his brother Dylan Efron, the show follows him around the world exploring different locales and learning about health, nature, culture and sustainability.
The star moved to Byron Bay last year, and since then has popped up in a number of locations around Australia.
Most recently on Monday, the Courier Mail reported that he had been to Bulimba, visiting celebrity physiotherapist Jim Bostock at his Bostock Institute.
The show has been spotted filming in Adelaide, Tasmania, parts of Victoria and Dubbo.
Barefoot Tours owner Chelsea Handley said having Efron in Cairns and potentially featuring the region in his show would be a big boost for local tourism.
“It’s exciting to think that Cairns is a hot destination for everyone, celebrities or not,” she said.
“I hope he goers out and does as many tours as we can so we can give him the best impression.”
