Youths nabbed at Cairns Show in connection to alleged crime wave

Cairns police have made a significant breakthrough in tackling an alleged juvi crime wave. Six people, including a 12-year-old are alleged to involved in 84 recent property offences.

Alleged car thieves burn rubber in Cairns

CAIRNS police have made a significant breakthrough with the shutdown of an alleged six kid crime wave.

Ranging in ages from 12 to 18 the six juveniles are alleged to be responsible for 84 recent property crime offences.

The alleged offenders were arrested during Operation Dryandra by officers from the Cairns Property Crime Squad and four of the six minors have been apprehended at the Cairns Show.

Included in the arrests was a 16-year-old Brinsmead boy accused of a Reservoir Rd robbery on June 6 and multiple burglaries and car thefts from Redlynch, Edmonton, Manoora, Westcourt and Bayview Heights properties.

He was charged with a total of 40 offences, including 14 counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

In the same sting a 14-year-old was slapped with 28 charges in relation to multiple burglaries and car thefts from Parramatta Park, Bentley Park, Mount Sheridan, Earlville, Kamerunga, White Rock, Bungalow and Cairns during the past month.

Police refused bail of a 12-year-old Bungalow boy after alleged attempted break-ins at Bungalow and Manunda and the theft of a car from a Gordonvale home on July 7.

The alleged theft of a car from a Redlynch address on July 6, possessing a knife in a public place and holding property suspected of being stolen led to the arrest of a 16-year-old Yarrabah boy who was also contravened an order regarding access to an electronic device.

Police allege a 16-year-old Edmonton boy broke into a Bentley Park home in November 2021, stole car keys and a vehicle. He was bailed with strict conditions.

The sixth arrest was of a 18-year-old Westcourt man charged with five offences connected to the alleged theft of a vehicle from a home in Grantala St Manoora and another in Shannon Drive Bayview Heights earlier this week.
