Fresh off a European and North American tour, Australian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Xavier Rudd will kick off his Freedom Sessions tour at Munro Martin Parklands on September 28.

The popular musician said he was “stoked” to start the tour in Cairns.

“I’ve done Cairns a handful of times. It’s pretty rare that we get up there, but I’ve played at the (Munro Martin) Parklands once before and it’s really beautiful,” Mr Rudd said.

“I’m stoked to get back up to North Queensland.”

Keeping things in the family, Mr Rudd’s son’s band Calypso Cora will open the show.

“They’ve just released on EP and this will be their first show in Cairns, so it’s exciting,” he said.

Mr Rudd promised fan favourite Follow the Sun would feature on the playlist, among other crowd favourites.
“Probably my most popular song around the world is Follow the Sun, but all of my songs have a story and they’re sort of special to me in different ways,” he said.

“I don’t really have favourites myself but there’s a bunch of different songs that people love and I’m always happy to play those songs.”
