CAIRNS business leaders have made it clear that another work-from-home order would be crippling on the economy if the latest wave of Covid forced the change.
Cairns Chamber of Commerce CEO Patricia O’Neill said they encouraged employees to use common sense and stay home if they were unwell.
“The economy has just started kicking back, we need to allow people to have a bit more normality in their life in their businesses both financially and psychologically,” she said.
“It was a serious worry around the mental health of the community.”
Elite executive managing director Eva Grabner said not having a team around when working from home was a problem.
“Many of our clients have said they wont adopt this model. People are tired, people are fed up,” she said.
“I personally think businesses should make their own decisions.”
Tusa Dive technician Vilimone Baleilevuka said his industry could not work from home.
“There are safety thing that we can’t do from home. We closed during Covid and it affected us really badly,” he said.
