Supermarkets warn food prices will soar

Woolworths has entered its first commercial arrangement to have its products available in remote communities across Far North Queensland and the Torres Strait, and on Palm Island.

Its wholesale business Australian Grocery Wholesalers has partnered with remote store operator Community Enterprise Queensland (CEQ).

CEQ chief executive officer Michael Dykes said feedback on Woolworths’ products had been encouraging.

“Our customers do not have the opportunity to go to the next store if we have items that are not available,” Mr Dykes said.

“We needed to ensure the partnership with AGW recognised this difference and that we had a shared understanding on the importance of consistent supply to our community stores.”

Woolworths Wholesale general manager Shaun Burton said the partnership would deliver a better food and grocery shopping experience for remote Far North communities.

CEQ is a not-for-profit organisation that has 28 stories in remote communities.
