A woman has been charged with one count of drink driving after crashing a car into a Smithfield pizza store on Friday.
Police will allege a 51-year-old woman drove a Mazda 3 through the shop front of a Faculty Close business around lunch time, causing substantial damage.
At the time, a Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman confirmed one crew responded to reports of a vehicle crash in Smithfield at 10.45am, and assessed one female patient.
“Crews assessed one adult female, but she was uninjured and didn’t require transport,” the spokeswoman said.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed the incident was caused by human error, with the driver likely intending to reverse, but had put the car in the wrong gear by accident.
The car was not stolen.
QPS confirmed the woman was subject to a breath test at the scene, when it will be alleged she returned a positive result.
She was transported to Smithfield Police Station where during a secondary test it will be alleged, she returned a reading of 0.216.
A Domino’s spokeswoman confirmed there were no customers in store at the time, and no staff members had been injured in the incident.
“The incident at Domino’s Smithfield occurred before the store opened for business,” the spokeswoman said.
“Our number one priority is the safety of our team members, and we are currently focused on their wellbeing.
“Domino’s has offered counselling to all team members involved.”
The spokeswoman confirmed the store had closed after the incident, but would reopen to serve customers on Friday evening.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman confirmed there was no structural damage to the shopfront and the vehicle was towed out of the shop some time later.
The driver was charged with one count of drink driving and her licence has been immediately suspended.
She is due to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on April 18.
