WITH the holiday extension about to kick-in, some parents may be pulling their hair out trying to think of ways to entertain their loved ones before shipping them back to school.
Parent Lauren Wilson from Edmonton said she had planned to keep her 10-year-old son Nate busy with some schoolwork.
“My friend is a teacher and she’s given him some online learning. He is still going to do some schoolwork over the next two weeks,” she said.
But she plans on rewarding him when he finishes his work with a ride on his bike.
“It’s super hard being stuck inside especially with this rain,” she said.
“While I am working, he will have to entertain himself with a mix of Netflix, YouTube and board games.”
But there are other adventures that can be undertaken with children over the next two weeks.
These include the Cairns Aquarium, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures and Cairns Wake Park.
Cairns Aquarium chief executive Daniel Leipnik said he expects to see a high attendance especially when the weather is either very wet or humid over the next two weeks.
“With over 20,000 annual pass holders, local Cairns residents are utilising their Aquarium memberships and certainly bringing the kids in, not only on the weekends but also during the week, now that the holidays are extended,” he said.
Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures Co-owner Angela Freeman said they were extending some activities over the next two weeks.
“We have a special little program that we put on for the children during the school holidays particularly focused on the smaller animals they can hold.
“It’s fun for the kids and it’s different every day.”
