AS Covid cases continue to rise there is currently a big push for vaccinations in young children and Indigenous communities.
Pharmacy Guild of Australia national president Trent Twomey said vaccinations for children had been a success.
“We are completely oversubscribed,” he said.
“Community pharmacies in Cairns that received their shipment over a week ago have run out.”
Mr Twomey said pharmacies were expecting to get another shipment on Friday.
Overnight across Cairns and Hinterland recorded 670 new cases, making the total since the start of the pandemic 10,695. While Yarrabah recorded 16 new cases, making the total 104 active cases.
Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services director of clinical services Dr Jason King said vaccinations in the children vaccination program had been strong.
“We are pleased with the rollout of the children’s vaccination program,” he said.
“To vaccinate 20 per cent of our eligible 5 – 11-year-olds in the first week of rollout is a positive outcome for the community.
