Man crushed by glass, Smithfield
A 23-year-old man was injured by a 300kg pane of glass that fell on top of him at his workplace on Thursday morning.
Emergency services attended the Mount Milman Drive address in Smithfield at 9.39am to assist the man trapped under the glass.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service was on scene shortly after Queensland Ambulance Service to help lift the glass off the young man.
The 23-year-old man was taken to Cairns Hospital at 10.26am in critical condition with chest and neck injuries with a critical care paramedic and doctor.
A Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service spokesperson confirmed that the man is now in stable condition.
A Queensland Police Services spokesperson said they are not investigating the incident.
Female officer assaulted, Cairns
A Trinity Park man has been charged with serious assault offences after he allegedly headbutted a female police officer several times before slipping away. The incident is alleged to have occurred at around 7pm on Wednesday night while police were conducting patrols along Vetiver Street.
They approached a 28-year-old man known to police who attempted to flee before being apprehended.
A struggled ensued and the man allegedly headbutted the female officer several times before slipping out of his jumper and running off, leaving behind a bag that contained several personal items as well as a knife.
The man was later located at a Vetiver Street address and again allegedly struggled with police before being arrested.
He was charged with one count each of serious assault police, possession of a knife in public and three counts of obstruct police.
The officer was treated for minor injuries, including facial bruising.
He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

Roadworks have been reported on Cape Tribulation Bloomfield Road at Cape Tribulation / Kimberley

The Peninsula Developmental Road is subject to a 5 Tonne GVM limit from Laura to Coen due to water over the road.
Edmonton/Gordonvale
Roadworks are being carried out on the Bruce Highway — Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale. Delays expected (during active hours of work), with all lanes in both directions affected. The work is expected to run until June 30, 2023.
Feluga
Major intersection upgrade at East Feluga Road and Bruce Hwy. Delays are expected to August 12, 2022.
Lake Eacham
Wrights Creek Road is closed to all traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
Ravenshoe
Roadworks have been reported at Grigg St, Ravenshoe and are expected to December 12, 2022.
Wrights Creek
Hill Road Closed permanently from the Bruce Highway to Harris Road to December 2024.
