Alleged assault identity appeal, Cairns:

A man involved in the alleged assault of a Gordonvale woman late last year remains unidentified as Cairns police release CCTV footage in an appeal to the public for assistance in finding him.

The 45-year-old woman was driving through Cairns North at about 1.30pm on Saturday 30 October 2021 when she stopped her car on McLeod Street – between the intersections of Lily and Arthur Street – and was allegedly assaulted by a man unknown to her.

The man proceeded to run away along McLeod Street before police arrived at the scene.

Police have released home security camera footage as they appeal once again to community members for help in identifying the man.

They have encouraged anyone who may recognise him from the footage or onlookers to come forward in aiding them.

Drivers who travelled through the area at the time of the incident with dash cameras in their vehicles have been asked to check any footage that might provide useful information in the search.

Property Crime arrests, Cairns:

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers overnight charged six teenagers with a total of 32 property related offences in the Cairns area.

A 15-year-old Cairns North boy was charged with 19 property related offences after police identified the boy from CCTV footage.

The offences include four counts each of attempted enter of a dwelling and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, five counts of burglary, two counts of attempted enter of premises, one count each of attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted enter of a dwelling with intent, trespass and attempted enter of a premises with intent.

Police will allege the boy committed numerous property offences over the last month across the Cairns, Trinity Beach, Walkamin and Atherton areas.

Police opposed bail and the boy is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court this month.

Traffic crash, Mooroobool: A 17-year-old Earlville girl was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle after it’s alleged, she was involved in a hit and run incident yesterday (April 21).

Police will allege at around 1.30pm, the girl was travelling in an alleged stolen bronze Toyota Rav 4 which failed to stop at a red traffic control light at the intersection of Mccoombe and Kingsford Streets, Mooroobool.

The Rav 4 collided with a grey Mitsubishi Pajero causing the Pajero to crash into a pole, while the Rav 4 crashed onto a fence.

The girl ran from the scene before being located a short time later and arrested by police.

A two-year-old infant and the other occupants travelling in the Pajero were transported to Cairns Hospital for assessments.

Police opposed bail and the girl is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court this month.

Property offences, Brinsmead: A 19-year-old Mooroobool man was charged with six offences including three counts of attempted enter of a dwelling with intent at night, one count each of trespass, burglary and commit indictable offence and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police will allege the man committed multiple offences throughout Brinsmead area over the last two weeks.

Police allege the man entered a home whilst the resident slept on April 11 before stealing car keys and the victim’s vehicle.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court May 16, 2022.

WEDNESDAY’S NEWS

Tyre deflation device used

A 21-year-old Manoora man and a 19-year-old Mooroobool man will face multiple charges following their arrest by police in Mooroobool on Wednesday, April 20.

It will be alleged both men were driving around in a Mercedes wagon and a Porsche Cayenne, both of which had been reported stolen.

Police observed one of the cars travelling on Mulgrave Rd and successfully deployed a tyre deflation device.

The driver allegedly attempted to drive off but only made it a short distance before abandoning the car and getting into the other vehicle.

It will be further alleged the two men drove the Porsche into Casella St, Earlville, before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot.

Both men were caught and arrested a short time later in Mooroobool.

The 21-year-old Manoora man was charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He was bailed to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 6.

Police will allege on March 26, the 19-year-old man along with others gained entry to a Koppen Terrace home and stole two cars parked in the garage.

On March 28 in Redlynch, it will be further alleged the man was involved when a vehicle was used to smash into the doors of a bottle shop and alcohol stolen.

Further, he was also allegedly involved in two other incidents on March 30 in Edmonton and Brinsmead when a car was used to smash doors to gain entry to two businesses.

It will also be alleged the man gained entry to a home in Derby St, Yorkeys Knob, on April 16 stealing keys and a car parked out front.

It will be further alleged the man broke into a Ponticello St, Whitfield, home on April 17 again stealing keys and a car parked out front.

The 19-year-old Mooroobool man was charged with three counts of burglary, six counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three counts of enter premise and commit indictable offence. His bail was opposed, and he will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

Police investigations are continuing.

Coen – traffic crash

A male patient in his 70s with chest injuries was transported to the Coen Health Clinic before being airlifted to Cairns Hospital in a serious but stable condition after QAS was called to a traffic crash on Port Stewart Road around 11pm.

TUESDAY’S NEWS

Two patients were taken to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition after a multi-vehicle crash on Sheridan Street near Collins Ave northbound.

The road was reduced to one lane about 12.40pm and reopened about an hour later.

A Queensland spokeswoman said they received the call about 12.30pm about a car and a ute colliding.

On Friday, the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a very high chance of rain and the chance of a thunderstom. Winds are expected to become south-easterly at 20 to 30 km/h in the morning.

Roadworks are being carried out on the Bruce Highway — Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale. Delays expected (during active hours of work), with all lanes in both directions affected. The work is expected to run until June 30, 2023.

Edmonton / Gordonvale / Wrights Creek

Road works on Yarrabah Rd and the Bruce Highway due to the Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale are expected to cause motorist delays.

All lanes in both directions are affected and changed traffic conditions are in place.

Feluga

Major intersection upgrade at East Feluga Road and Bruce Hwy. Delays are expected to August 12, 2022.

Lake Eacham

Wrights Creek Road is closed to all traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.

Malanda

Bridge Replacement Works are being undertaken at Williams Creek on Merragallan Road commencing 29 November 2021 through to April 2022. A full road closure will be in place. There will be no access across the Williams Creek or any sidetrack in operation.

Ravenshoe

Roadworks have been reported at Grigg St, Ravenshoe and are expected to December 12, 2022.

Wrights Creek

Hill Road Closed permanently from the Bruce Highway to Harris Road to December 2024.
