TODAY’S NEWS
Driver stuck in floodwater, Finlayale
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crew was called to a small town near Mossman this morning when a vehicle became stuck in floodwater.
A Port Douglas fire truck was deployed to Finlayvale Road at around 5am on Friday morning after reports a man had been trapped inside his car while attempting to drive through a body of water.
“There was a person in the vehicle but they managed to extricate themself and get to safety,” a QFES spokeswoman said.
A tow truck has since removed the vehicle from Finlayvale Road, with signs erected warning of rising water in the Mossman River.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
THURSDAY’S NEWS
Enter Premise, Smithfield
A 39-year-old Mooroobool man was charged on June 29 following an investigation into an alleged break and enter at a Koolmoon Street business.
Police will allege about 1am on June 29 two men cut a hole in a fence to gain entry. The men stole a large amount of copper wiring and attempted to steal copper piping before leaving.
On Wednesday police located the man at an Edmonton home charging him with one count of enter premise and commit indictable offence and possess dangerous drugs.
A 32-year-old Cairns North man has previously been charged on June 24 with this offence.
He was bailed to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 11.
Enter premise
Four Yarrabah juveniles aged between 15 and 17-years were charged on Wednesday following their alleged involvement into two separate incidents at a Yarrabah business.
It will be alleged a group entered through the roof of a Yarrabah business in the early hours of June 16.
Once inside the group conducted a search stealing money before fleeing.
It will be further alleged a group attended the business on June 19 when it was closed and gained entry through the roof. An untidy search was conducted stealing food items before fleeing.
Police investigation including reviewing CCTV footage assisted to identify the four juveniles.
All four were located at their homes yesterday and arrested.
A 17-year-old Yarrabah girl was charged with one count of enter premise and commit indictable offence.
Two Yarrabah boys aged 15 and 17 were both charged with enter premise and commit indictable offence.
All three will appear in the Yarrabah Childrens Court.
A 15-year-old Yarrabah girl was also charged with enter premise and commit indictable offence and she will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
Police investigations are continuing to identify other persons involved.
Assault at Westcourt
A 13-year-old Cairns girl was arrested and charged yesterday following an incident that allegedly occurred in Westcourt on June 21.
Police will allege around 11.35am that day four girls entered a Mulgrave Road convenience store and attempted to steal drinks from the fridge. A 29-year-old female shop assistant confronted the group.
As the group put the items back and were leaving the girl started a physical altercation with the shop assistant before running off. The shop assistant was not injured.
Police located the girl yesterday charging her with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, enter premise and commit indictable offence, common assault and four counts of stealing.
She was bailed with strict conditions and will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.
WEDNESDAY’S NEWS
Traffic crash
A pedestrian has been hit by a car on Herald St at Bentley Park.
Police received the report at 7.54pm and were on scene shortly after 8pm.
The man was treated by paramedics on scene for multiple soft tissue injuries. He was conscious.
Paramedics transported him to Cairns Base Hospital.
TUESDAY’S NEWS
Theft on a bus
Police received a report at 7.20pm of theft on a bus at Skull Rd in White Rock.
Two people took money from the cash plate on the bus before fleeing the scene on foot.
Police are on the scene and are searching for the suspects.
No-one is in police custody in connection with the incident as of 7.40pm.
No injuries were reported.
Serious assault police
Police arrested and charged a 39-year-old Earlville on June 27 with two counts of stealing and two counts of serious assault police.
It will be alleged on Monday the man entered a Lake St, Cairns City bottle shop on two separate occasions, stealing alcohol before fleeing.
About 9.15pm, police approached the offender on the Esplanade before he allegedly punched an officer twice and spat on another officer, before being taken into custody.
His bail was opposed, and he will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
Attempted burglary
Two men aged 18 and 19 years and a 16-year-old boy were on Monday following an attempted burglary of a Bungalow home.
It will be alleged that the three attempted to gain entry to a Spence Street residence before fleeing when confronted by a resident.
Police in the area saw the three offenders fleeing the scene and took them into custody.
An 18-year-old Yarrabah man was charged with a total of 19 charges including six counts each of burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of unlicensed driving, two counts of attempted enter dwelling and one count each of receiving tainted property and stealing.
His bail was opposed, and he was remanded to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 28.
A 19-year-old Cairns man was charged with one count each of enter dwelling and attempted enter dwelling. He was bailed to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 14.
A 16-year-old Yarrabah boy was charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of attempted enter dwelling, two counts of burglary and one count of unlicensed driving.
He was bailed with strict conditions and will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.
MONDAY’S NEWS
Innisfail crash
A 20-year-old man is in a critical condition with head injuries after a car collided with a tree at Flying Fish Point Road and Knorre Hill Road at Innisfail.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the driver of the car was trapped and extracted out. The patient was taken to Innisfail Hospital where he will be flown to another hospital.
A police spokesman said they received the call about 4.20pm. The road was closed for about four hours until about 8.15pm.
Single-vehicle crash, Kanimbla
A car has crashed onto a guard rail fencing of a main road in Kanimbla, causing damages to the fence but leaving the driver uninjured.
Queensland Ambulance Services were called to the scene of the crash on Lake Morris Road and Reservoir Road, Kanimbla at 11am.
A QAS spokesman said the 79-year-old woman driving the car was assessed by paramedics but showed only minor injuries.
“It’s only minor, it doesn’t look like we will be transporting anyone.”
Kuranda Range slowed
UPDATE: AT 6.25am the Department of Transport and Main Roads reported the Kennedy Hwy at MacAlister Range had been cleared after fallen vegetation was previously blocking the eastbound lane, and slowing traffic.
EARLIER: Motorists travelling on the Kuranda range section of the Kennedy Hwy are being advised of a hazard slowing traffic down.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads at 4.23am on Monday reported fallen vegetation at MacAlister Range, near Streets Creek was blocking the eastbound lane towards Smithfield, and slowing traffic in both directions.

Edmonton/Gordonvale
Roadworks are being carried out on the Bruce Highway — Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale. Delays expected (during active hours of work), with all lanes in both directions affected. The work is expected to run until June 30, 2023.
Feluga
Major intersection upgrade at East Feluga Road and Bruce Hwy. Delays are expected to August 12, 2022.
Lake Eacham
Wrights Creek Road is closed to all traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
Ravenshoe
Roadworks have been reported at Grigg St, Ravenshoe and are expected to December 12, 2022.
