Property offenders arrested, Smithfield, Edmonton, Cairns
Officers from Smithfield Criminal Investigation Branch and Cairns Tactical Crime Squad arrested a 34-year-old White Rock man and a 39-year-old Bentley Park woman following an extensive
investigation into alleged break-ins in Smithfield, Edmonton and Cairns.
Some of the alleged offences include a January 1 break-in at an Aumuller Street, Bungalow business in which property including watches and fishing reels were stolen.
On January 3 GPS transmitters, dog hunting vests and gel blasters were stolen during a break-in at an Ishmael Road, Earlville business.
Police will further allege on January 15 cash and cigarettes were stolen during a break-in at a Clifton Beach business and around 9.10pm that day power tools were stolen from a Supply Road, Bentley Park business.
Investigations led police to a Little Pease, Manoora address yesterday afternoon. The man fled from officers and was arrested following a short foot pursuit. The woman was also arrested.
Detectives charged the man with nine offences including four counts of enter premise and commit an indictable offence and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, obstruct police officer, possess dangerous drugs and possess utensils.
The woman was charged with two counts of enter premise and commit indictable offence and one count each of stealing and possessing dangerous drugs.
They were both denied police bail and are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on
January 21.
Single-vehicle crash
The driver involved in a suburban Cairns single-vehicle crash has reportedly “ran” from the scene as emergency services respond to fallen powerlines.
Police were called to Pease St, Manoora at 6.30am Friday following reports of a single vehicle colliding with a power pole.
A Queensland Police spokesman said there had been significant damage to the pole, and about 6.40am, police reported power lines had fallen onto the footpath and in water.
At 6.50am, police were still searching for the male driver of the vehicle.
About 8am emergency services had cleared the scene and reopned all lanes of Pease St.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19
Single Vehicle Crash
A female patient has been taken to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition after her car was flipped upside down in Cairns City.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said they received the call about 10.45am on Wednesday morning after a single vehicle crash on Bunda Street in Cairns City.
The spokeswoman said the patient was taken to hospital with no obvious injuries.
MONDAY, JANUARY 17
Irukandi stings
SWIMMERS are being urged to take care in the sea after reports of six irukandji stings in a 48-hour period.
It is understood that the irukandji stings occurred across a number of Far North Queensland beaches.
Marine stingers are present in tropical Queensland waters all year round but the risk is higher during the marine stinger season (November – May).
Single vehicle crash, Mareeba
Police were called to Shaban Drive in Mareeba on Saturday following a report of a single vehicle traffic crash.
A 58-year-old Mareeba woman was riding her quad bike with a 35-year-old passenger along Shaban Drive and lost control of the bike, hitting a fence.
The driver was thrown from the bike and hit her head on a fence post.
She was taken to the Mareeba hospital before being flown to the Townsville hospital in a critical condition.
Police are continuing their investigations into the cause of the crash and are appealing to anyone who may be able to assist police to please come forward.

Multiple offenders arrested, Cairns
Far North police officers were kept busy over the weekend following a break-in that occurred in Whitfield.
Three youths aged between 14 and 17 years and an 18-year-old Woree man were arrested in Mount Sheridan on Saturday, January 15 about 2.40am.
It will be alleged the group had broken into a home on Brooks Street, Whitfield, at around 10.00pm on January 14, stealing credit cards, jewellery and a car.
The vehicle was observed by officers who successfully deployed a tyre deflation device to stop the car.
A 14-year-old Manunda boy was charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of motor vehicle, stealing and unlicensed driving.
His bail was opposed and he is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court.
A 16-year-old Bungalow girl was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court at a later date.
A 17-year-old Earlville girl was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
She was bailed with strict conditions and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court at a later date.
An 18-year-old Woree man was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on March 3.
Vehicle intercept, Yarrabah
Police arrested one youth and two adults following a successful tyre deflation device deployment on a suspected stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was reported stolen from a Benn Street, Brinsmead, address on January 14 at about 9.00pm.
At around 2.00am on January 16, police observed the vehicle travelling towards Yarrabah and deployed the tyre deflation device, stopping the vehicle.
All three occupants of the car were arrested and charged.
A 17-year-old Bungalow boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.
He was granted bail and will appear in the Cairns Children’s Court at a later date.
An 18-year-old Westcourt man was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He was bailed to appear in the Cairn Magistrates Court on January 24.
A 19-year-old Earlville man was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He was bailed to appear in the Cairn Magistrates Court on March 7.

Sealing of 10.1km of the Peninsula Developmental Road including drainage provisions at Archer River and Mission River is expected to continue to December 24, 2021 with works ongoing Monday to Sunday 6am to 6pm and delays are expected.
Bungalow
A speed reduction is in force on Mulgrave Road at Bungalow due to culvert damage near Brown Street.
Access across culvert in both directions along Mulgrave Road and Brown Street intersection is restricted to vehicles that comply with the general mass and concessional mass limits.
Cape Tribulation / Kimberley
Roadworks have been reported on Cape Tribulation Bloomfield Road at Cape Tribulation / Kimberley
Long delays are expected in both directions towards Wujal Wujal.
Edmonton/Gordonvale
Roadworks are being carried out on the Bruce Highway — Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale. Delays expected (during active hours of work), with all lanes in both directions affected. The work is expected to run until June 30, 2023.
Edmonton / Gordonvale / Wrights Creek
Road works on Yarrabah Rd and the Bruce Highway due to the Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale are expected to cause motorist delays.
All lanes in both directions are affected and changed traffic conditions are in place.
Freshwater
Roadworks on a shoulder of Kamerunga Road / Stratford Connection Road at Freshwater are expected to cause delay for motorists with lanes reduced. Proceed with caution.
Japoonvale
A 25 tonne load limit has been imposed on the Little Liverpool Creek Bridge between Torrisi Rd and Walter Lever Estate Rd. No delays are expected.
Kuranda
Barron River Bridge on the Kennedy Highway reduced to one lane. Restricted to vehicles that comply with general mass limits. Partial lane closures. Both directions affected and delays expected. Allow extra travel time.
Lake Eacham
Wrights Creek Road is closed to all traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
Stewart Creek Valley
Road hazard being soft shoulders on Douglas Creek Road at
Stewart Creek Valley has forced a 5 tonne GVM limit.
Heavy vehicles have been advised to use an alternative route.
Boogan / Mourilyan
Pavement widening and rehabilitation is underway on the Boogan Road at Mourilyan.
Works are expected to operate from Monday to Sunday, 6am to 6pm.
