Myer store manager Wayne Cosgrove said they are excited to play a bigger role in Cairns Cup Carnival this year.

“The new look Style Stakes and the introduction of new award categories further cements both Myer and the Club’s commitment to be at the forefront of Australian fashion,” he said.

On Saturday August 20 the competition categories include stylish lady of the day, classic lady (over 50s), stylish couples and Cairns fashion week face of the carnival.

On Saturday August 27, the same competitions will return but with stylish gentlemen of the day instead of stylish couples.

This year the fashion trends are expected to have a lot of colour, florals and pastels.

“Whites are always beautiful in spring, it’s nice and clean,” Mr Cosgrove said.

“We are seeing tones of buttercup yellow and greens. In winter we saw a lot of darker green colours and coming into summer that's becoming fresh pops of green, settled with bright pink and orange tones.”

Mr Cosgrove said there had been a resurgence of larger brimmed crown style hats.

Cairns Cup Carnival Ambassador for 2022 Kymberlee Cockrem has been tasked with promoting the carnival and judging the fashion event after winning last year.

Ms Cockrem said when she decides what to wear she bases it on things she loves.

“I want to make sure I am comfortable with what I am wearing,” she said.

“I love florals, I love spring and beautiful fabrics.”
