AUSTRALIAN cricket superstars Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne were spotted on Lake St in Cairns CBD this morning getting a caffeine fix prior to their game at Cazalys Stadium at 2pm today.
The world’s second and fourth best test batsmen are part of the line-up taking on the Kiwis in the second One Day International game in a three match series, which Australia currently leads after a tight win in Cairns on Tuesday.
“It’s been really enjoyable here in Cairns. We have played some good cricket, the weather has been outstanding and the facilities are superb,” Australian team manager Brian McFadyen said.
“Every time we play New Zealand they are always super competitive, close contests. These games are always great viewing for the crowd and those watching on TV. Cameron Green and Alex Carey were superb in the first game to get the team across the line.
“Outside of playing and training the squad has been enjoying the city as much as they can with three games in a pretty short period of time.
“It’s a fantastic place to play cricket. We thank the City, the venue and Cairns cricket for looking after us so well.”
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first for today’s game.
Australia were on shaky ground after 36 overs, losing eight wickets for just 118 runs.
