UPDATE: Police confirm death of man missing near waterfall
Police have confirmed that a missing 20-year-old man who was the subject of a search near a popular Atherton Tableland waterfall has been found dead.

UPDATE 7:05PM: Police have confirmed that a 20-year-old man who had been the subject of an extensive search in Mareeba has sadly been located deceased in Emerald Creek Falls this afternoon.
At 1pm, January 15, the 20-year-old man was reported missing when his friends lost sight of him when he walked ahead of them on Emerald Falls Road.
A land and aerial search was conducted throughout yesterday and today which had continued overnight.
Assets including SES officers, specialist police and swift water rescue assisted with police divers locating the man at 4.15pm today.
Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death and police will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
Police had closed Emerald Falls Road in Mareeba to assist with the search and have since reopened the area.
The Queensland Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
UPDATE 7PM: Police are expected to issue an update on Monday after emergency services crews conducted an intense land and air search on the weekend when a man, 20, was reported missing at Emerald Falls near Mareeba on Saturday afternoon.
UPDATE 2:50PM: Police have confirmed the search for the missing man at Emerald Falls in Mareeba remains active.
On Sunday afternoon police confirmed a land and aerial search was still underway.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service confirmed they were assisting police and currently had six vehicles at the scene.
“We have a level two Swift Water crew assisting police,” a QFES spokesman said.
“Police are the lead agency in this search.”
Members of the public are advised the access road to the falls would be closed while the search and rescue remains ongoing.
The community is thanked for their co-operation at this time.
INITIAL: A search resumed at first light this morning for a man missing in the vicinity of an Atherton Tableland waterfall.
Police closed the road leading to Emerald Creek Falls near Mareeba on Saturday as search and rescue crews mounted an operation to find a 20-year-old man, last seen on Emerald Falls Rd.
He was reported missing by friends who lost sight of him after walking ahead of the group, police said.
A land and aerial search was conducted throughout the day on Saturday but failed to locate the man.
Additional teams, including SES officers, specialist police and swift water rescue joined the search this morning.
There have been a long list of accidents at Emerald Creek Falls, the most recent was in March last year when Craig Simpson miraculously survived a 30m plunge from the top of the falls.
Police advised the public the road will be closed while the search and rescue continues.
