KMART’S loyal Smithfield fans were disappointed to find the store closed on Saturday morning, the result of a fire in the store’s loading dock.
A sign out the front of the Smithfield Shopping Centre store said it would be temporarily closed until further notice, due to a “small and contained fire” which occurred around 9.30pm on Friday night.
“We can confirm no one was injured. As always, safety of all our workers and visitors remains our number one priority,” the note read.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews were called to fire in the store’s loading dock at about 9.34pm, with smoke issuing from the area by the time they arrived.
The fire was extinguished by 9.57pm, the spokeswoman said.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman described the incident as an “electrical fire”.
Smoke could still be smelled inside Smithfield Shopping Centre on Saturday.
