Police investigating suspected fatal hit and run on FNQ highway at Tully

Police are investigating a suspected hit and run after a 20-year-old man was found dead next to the Bruce Highway at Tully on Friday. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.

POLICE are investigating a suspected hit and run after a 20-year-old man was found dead next to the Bruce Highway at Tully on Friday morning.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the young man’s movements to please come forward.

Vision obtained from a local service station at the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Butler Street shows the man leaving the business at 10.30pm on December 2 on his bicycle.

Police believe it may be possible the man was struck by a vehicle on his way home, which is located just north of the service station.

At 11.45am on December 3, a truck driver found the man’s body in a culvert on the side of the highway and notified authorities.

Investigations are under way to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have noticed the man (depicted in the vision) in the area at the time to contact them.

He was wearing blue jeans, a black long-sleeved shirt, grey sneakers, a blue baseball cap and a blue backpack.

Additionally, anyone with dashcam vision of the area between 10.30pm and 11.45am is asked to make contact.

Investigations are ongoing.
