Six people have been charged and more than $130,000 in cash seized following a major drug bust in Cairns and the Far North.
The arrests came after a seven-month investigation into drug trafficking in Cairns.
Body-worn camera footage captured the November 3 raid on a Mooroobool property, which resulted in the largest seizure of the operation, including significant quantities of cocaine, steroids, and over $130,000 in cash.
The investigation, named Operation Whiskey Oaklands, was launched in May, with authorities carrying out multiple raids across Tully, Cairns, Innisfail, and down south in Hervey Bay earlier this month.
Among the six arrested were four residents from Cairns, one from Tully and one Hervey Bay resident.
Queensland Police Acting Inspector Steve Paskin said breaking up any charge on any person with drug trafficking has a positive impact on the community.
“It’s taking dangerous drugs off the streets, so that’s something that the Queensland Police strive to do,” he said.
Inspector Paskin said the safety of the community is their number one priority and more arrests are to be expected.
“Any person trafficking in dangerous drugs or organised crime syndicates in trafficking dangerous drugs will be targeted by the Queensland Police,” he said.
Crime Squad Far Northern Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said dangerous drugs had no place in the Far North community.
“Operation Whiskey Oaklands demonstrates our ongoing focus on keeping harmful substances off the streets, and we will continue to act against anyone involved in trafficking dangerous drugs,” he said.
As a result of the 10 search warrants carried out, a total of six people were charged with 24 offences, including possessing and trafficking dangerous drugs
A 41-year-old Mooroobool man was charged with five counts of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing pipes that had been used.
He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 26.
Also among the six charged is a 24-year-old Redlynch man, arrested on November 3.
He faces multiple charges, including trafficking in dangerous drugs and is set to appear in court on November 18.
Additionally, a 29-year-old male and a 29-year-old female from Edmonton were both charged with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, on October 30.
They are both due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 15.
“We continue to encourage the community to report suspicious behaviour to Policelink, or anonymous via Crime Stoppers, to help us target illicit substances,” Sergeant Grace said.
