Motorists have been urged not to drive in floodwaters after a key bridge was submerged in flash flooding and an emergency call out to a vehicle trapped in water near Tully.

Emergency services have responded to reports of a vehicle in floodwater at Jarra Creek, east of Tully around 8.20am on Friday.

Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed one crew attended the scene after reports of a vehicle stuck in flood water at Mullins Creek Road at 8.20am and the driver was transported in a stable condition to Tully Hospital.

“Looks like a man in his 60s was in the vehicle. He was transported to Tully hospital in a stable condition with a pre-existing medical condition,” the spokesman said.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesman confirmed one crew responded to reports of a vehicle trapped in floodwater.

“One crew responded to reports of a vehicle stuck in flood water. One person was in the vehicle but was not entrapped,” the spokeswoman said.

It comes as heavy rainfall drenches parts of the Far North, causing minor flooding in some areas, including Peets Bridge in Goldsborough.

The Department of Transport and Main roads advises Peets Bridge is closed to traffic in both directions as a result of water over the road and motorists are urged not to drive in floodwater.

The Bureau of Meteorology have issued minor flood warnings for Peets Bridge and along Mulgrave River, with flood water expected to peak late Friday morning.

River level rises were also occuring along the Russell River.
