Pair wading in crocodile habitat Jardine River slammed for ‘stupidity’

Far Northerners have reacted angrily to a video of two “idiots” wading waist-deep in a croc-infested river, saying if they were attacked, the crocodile would pay the price for their stupidity.

Video of two “bogans” wading waist deep in the Jardine River, a known crocodile habitat, has drawn scathing criticism from Far Northerners.

The pair appear to be wading aimlessly through the murky water, with one brandishing a gun.

The father of the late Steve Irwin is leading a push to penalise those who enter crocodile habitats for the sake of social media posts.

Mr Irwin engaged the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) to draw up the amendments to the Nature Conservation Act.

He said social media content creators endangered themselves and crocodiles by entering the habitats.

“The government says idiots like these are not breaking any laws. Well, I say, change the law,” Mr Irwin said.

Commenters on social media labelled the pair “bogans” and said “if brains were electricity, they wouldn’t have enough for a blackout”.

“You have to be joking, you can’t legislate to cancel stupidity,” Keith Quinn said.

“The poor crocs will get put down again due to human stupidity,” Tiffany Williams said.

“Cannot fix completely stupid,” Joan Zappal said.

“Don’t make it illegal to do dangerous things. That should be a personal choice. Just don’t be a redneck and punish the crocodiles for eating people,” Brett Guy said.

“Don’t stuff yourself full of grog then head out where you could become dinner,” Shanalaiko Baker said.

“They get bitten or eaten, then the crocs die, dumb humans,” Sarie Wailu said.

Clay Ryan echoed the sentiment, saying: “how about we cull these idiots that are bringing attacks on themselves”.

The video surfaced just a week after 65-year-old Laura publican Kevin Darmody was snatched from the banks of the North Kennedy river at Lakefield National Park.
