EARLIER: Police have declared a Public Safety Preservation Act for areas within Abbott St, Shields St, Spence St, The Esplanade and Fogarty Park after emergency crews rushed to a fire at the Pacific Hotel this morning.
People are warned to avoid the area and follow the directions of police.
EARLIER: Emergency services crews have rushed to a fire at the Pacific Hotel in Cairns this morning.
Spence St has been blocked off as fire crews battle the blaze.
Smoke was earlier billowing from two rooms on the top floor of the hotel, however firefighters have used an extendible crane with a hose at the top to extinguish the flames.
The hotel, which is used as the city’s Covid-19 quarantine hotel, has been evacuated.
