Multiple youth crime arrests made by police

POLICE have arrested a number of people in Cairns after a string of youth crime incidents around the city.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested on January 1 after a street disturbance in Manoora.
Police will allege the boy was intoxicated, walking with a group of youths. When they approached him, it is alleged he was aggressive and uncooperative.
Police allege that he refused to comply with directions and was arrested then taken to the Cairns watch-house.
Police further allege that he also spat on an officer while he was escorted out of the car when they arrived at the watch-house.
After the boy was identified, police determined that he was wanted for questioning in relation to a break and enter on December 20 at Edge Hill and another incident involving a stolen motor vehicle from a White Rock address.
He was charged with one count each of contravene a requirement, obstruct police, serious assault police, and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The 15-year-old was bailed with strict conditions to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court later.
Four girls were also charged with attempted robbery after an incident on Sunday, January 2. The juveniles aged 12-14 were arrested and charged following an incident outside an Earlville shopping centre.
Police allege about 10.30am, they approached a 21-year-old woman getting off a bus.
Police said one of the girls had spoken to the woman before attacking her, then all the girls were involved in a violent altercation.
During the incident police allege that attempts were made to grab the woman’s bag and mobile phone.
The violence came to an end after a passer-by disturbed the girls involved. They then got on a bus that was travelling to the city centre.
After being informed of the incident, police were able to intercept the bus and arrest all four girls.
The girls have appeared in the Cairns Children’s Court and were bailed with strict conditions to appear before the courts at a later date.
