A CCTV specialist said he has seen an influx of people wanting to secure their homes as youth crime spirals out of control in the region.

Moore Solutions owner Craig Moore said some people have been proactive while others seek help once they have been broken into.

Over the last three months there has been a rise in stolen cars in the Far North with 162 taken in March and 17 in the first four days of April.

“There’s been a big increase in sales especially in the last six months,” Mr Moore said.

“But there has been a massive peak in the last three months especially to a lot of residential places.

Mr Moore said installations featured an app that was able to notify the owner if someone had entered the home or property.

“There’s a lot more peace of mind and satisfaction knowing there is something in place, at least with having a security camera system there,” he said.

The secret to getting the right CCTV camera was to look at the frame rate and not the megapixels, he said.

“That is the biggest misleading attribute on CCTV systems,” he said.

“Anything less than 25 frames per second results in a jumpy picture.”
