A SMALL idyllic seaside town in the Far North has led the charge for the nation after it was recognised among the world’s most beautiful villages.
Mission Beach was ranked the fifth most beautiful village in the world, based on its Instagram and Pinterest profile, in an analysis undertaken by product comparison site Uswitch.com.
The company identified Oia, in Greece as the most beautiful village raking in 1.6 million social media appearances, while Mission Beach was mentioned on the ’gram and Pinterest just over 600,000 times. No other Australian destination made the top 10 of the list.
While the town with a population of about 4000 has had its challenges with cyclones and flaky commitments to its jewel in the crown – Dunk Island, the Cassowary Coast village still has a lot to offer as the local government’s capital commitment through a masterplan begins to take shape, and it recently opened it’s long-awaited jetty at Clump Point – in a hope to boost the presence of tourism operators.
