“Guests can expect live music, Fashions on the Field, performances from KL Performance Industry and over 10 pop-up stalls,” Mr Gordon said.

But they are not the only ones celebrating the race that stops the nation.

Salt House are also throwing two events including a Cup cocktail party and a gala luncheon.

Salt House functions manager Joanne Turner said there was going to be lots of all-day entertainment including some live music from local singers.

“We are expecting to have everyone come out and celebrate as it’s been one of those years,” Ms Turner said.

Another highly anticipated event that is happening on Tuesday sold out in just six minutes after tickets went on sale.

The annual Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation fundraiser at Palm Cove’s Nu Nu restaurant is on with horse racing on the beach at 1pm on Tuesday.

Nu Nu Restaurant co-owner Mo Rowbottom said: “All of us have been doing it tough, trying to evolve and survive so we were blown away that we sold out quickly without advertising at all.”

It will also be a day for fashionistas.

Sonila Fashion owner Liana Hastie said it was important to wear something cool.

“It’s really warming up so wear something that is cool to wear as all the function places are semi airconned or not airconned,” Ms Hastie said.

Some materials that are coming in this season include natural fibres and linen to wear in the tropics.

Bella Boutique owner Bella Sinopoli said cooler fabrics are the way to go, but she loved something with prints.

“I personally am a sucker for prints that are beautiful, light and cool. Anything cool works in FNQ,” Ms Sinopoli said.

She suggested colours like orange, yellow and cobalt blue to really bring the change from Spring to Summer.
