Man rushed to hospital after being shot in stomach, leg at Silver Valley near Cairns

Police are investigating the circumstances around an “altercation” in the lead up to a shooting at a home in the state’s Far North overnight.

Police are investigating the circumstances around an “altercation” in the lead up to a shooting at a Far North home overnight.

A man aged in his 40s was airlifted to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries after being shot in the stomach and the leg at a property at Silver Valley, near Ravenshoe in Far North Queensland,

Emergency services rushed to the man’s home at about 9.30pm, after receiving a call for help.

The man was driven by ambulance to Mareeba Airport before being flown to Cairns Hospital for surgery, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said.

“Around 9.30pm, emergency services were called to the residence of a 44-year-old man who had sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and calf,” she said.

“Initial investigations by police indicate the man had sustained the injuries after an altercation with a man known to him at another address.”

The injured man drove to his own house after the shooting.
