A man has been flown to Cairns hospital following a single vehicle crash near a remote Far North Queensland town.

Emergency services responded to reports of a single vehicle crash near Lakeland, 250km north of Cairns.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed crews were called to a single vehicle crash on the Peninsula Development Road at 11.50am on Friday morning.

“We have the rescue helicopter on scene, treating a male in his 70s with head and back injuries,” the spokesman said.

The patient was flown to Cairns hospital in a stable condition.

The spokesman could not confirm if the helicopter was attached due to patient injuries or the remoteness of the location.

Police and SES crews were also on site.
