Highway reopens after potential fatal involving truck and car
The Gillies Range Rd has reopened to all traffic after a suspected fatal collision involving a truck and a car near the turn off for Lake Barrine.
Emergency services have been called to a serious two vehicle crash on the Atherton Tablelands.
Just before 8am paramedics were called to the crash on the Gillies Range Road about 8kms east of Yungaburra.
Paramedics assessed a patient in a life-threatening condition following a vehicle and truck crash at 7.51am.
A man of unknown age was entrapped in the car that collided with a truck.
Queensland Ambulance Service medics from the scene declared a “very dangerous situation” and urgently requested police back-up due to fuel leaking from damaged vehicles igniting.
“They have advised they need QPS due to a fire on scene,” an ambulance spokesman said.
The spokesman said the entrapped driver was not taken to hospital.
Earlier Queensland Police Service spokesman said both lanes of the road were blocked and motorists have advised to expect delays and to avoid the area if possible.
In an update at 9.45am police stated the Gillies Range road remained closed near Lake Barrine and traffic diversions were in place.
And at 1.10pm Transport and Main Roads sent an alert to motorists that the road had reopened.
The driver of the truck was taken to Atherton Hospital with minor injuries.
