A 21-year-old Mooroobool man has appeared in court after allegedly hiding his mobile in a public toilet so he could take recordings.

A 21-year-old Mooroobool man has appeared in court after allegedly hiding his mobile in a public toilet so he could record people.

Martin Bruce McMurtie has been charged with four counts of recordings in breach of privacy and one count of possessing child exploitation material.

Officers from Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch on Saturday afternoon discovered the hidden mobile phone in the toilet, located behind an Abbott Street business.

It will be further alleged between May 8 and May 11 the man made recordings of several people in the toilet cubicle.

He appeared in court on May 13 where he was remanded in custody and will appear again in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 4.
