A man has been taken to hospital after losing control of his ute and colliding with a barrier on the Bruce Highway late Friday Night.

A man has been taken to hospital after losing control of his ute and colliding with a barrier on the Bruce Highway late Friday Night.

The man in his 30s was transported to Cairns Hospital in a serious condition with chest injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 11.52pm Friday night after the single vehicle accident.

The man was travelling towards Cairns and was the only occupant of the ute when he reportedly lost control and struck a barrier between Bellenden Ker and Deeral on the Bruce Highway.

Emergency services worked to clear the scene for over two hours before the road was cleared at 2.12am Saturday.

Following a string of accidents on Far North roads due to the onset of the wet weather this Summer, police are urging drivers to take more care as they travel through the remainder of the holiday season.

With more rain predicted to fall over the weekend, police are asking drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions, especially on wet and slippery roads. Several crashes were reported over the Christmas weekend, with the Kuranda Range closed a number of times.
