Cairns families have made the most of hot sunny conditions ahead of a drizzly change expected to sweep through the Far North from Tuesday.

Midweek showers and consistent south-easterly breezes will bring some respite from the heat after the mercury pipped 32.8 degrees on Sunday.

Cooling off at a busy Cairns Lagoon on the weekend was Redlynch Valley’s Carol Lindner with her three-year-old daughter Zara and niece and nephew Mia and Cody.

“We had a fantastic time, we just came down to cool off in the lagoon … thankfully no sunburn,” Carol said.

“Cody especially enjoyed getting his revenge by burying me as well,” she said.

“It was busy but there was still plenty of space and it was great to people of all different ages down there, the kids got play with others while they were there too,” she said.

Looking to the week ahead, the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting cloudy conditions with passing showers Tuesday through to Thursday.

Tuesday in Cairns will see a top of 32 and an overnight low 23 degrees.

Temperatures for the rest of the week will follow suit with lows of 22-23 and highs of 31-32 degrees.

A consistent breeze of 15-25km from the south east will help keep the coastal region cool this week with winds easing overnight.

Conditions are expected to be partly cloudy over the coming weekend with a very low chance of rain and highs of 32 degrees with the possibility of stormy weather developing next week.
