With the wind on his face while taking on the stunning scenery of the Mossman Mount Molloy Rd, Bradley Kirk in a freak accident came unstuck and sustained critical injuries after colliding with a car last Sunday.
He died at the scene aged 51.
Known as Kirky to his mates, he spent most of his life living around the Mossman, Port Douglas and Wonga Beach areas after relocating north from Brisbane with his family when he was 14-years-old.
Enlisting in the family earthmoving business Mr Kirk helped compete early works for many of the big resorts that put Port Douglas on the map in the 1980s.
He was a mechanic by trade, worked as a plant operator and held tickets for multiple heavy earth-moving machines.
A dab hand at anything mechanical Mr Kirk started his own mobile fuel injection business called On Site Injector Service and raced self-built Formula 500s speedway cars.
Older brother Dave Kirk said Kirky was always the life of the party growing up and was quick with a joke and always up for a good time.

“His heart was always in the right place but he was a bit of a wild child,” he said.
“We all spent lot of time riding motorcycles in the bush and on the road, fishing and reef fishing.
“He could do anything mechanical, he was a pretty cluey bugger and handy to have around. There was not much he couldn’t fix.”
Mr Kirk’s best mate from the Daintree area Vaughn Jorgensen said Kirky loved his four-wheel drives and motorcycles.
“He looked after his gear, he liked to keep it shiny and he was proud of all his stuff,” he said.
“He always had dogs and liked to go pig hunting.”
Dave Kirk said the loss of his brother’s presence would not go unnoticed throughout the tight-knit communities surrounding Mossman.
“He is going to be sorely missed. He lived life to the fullest, 100 per cent,” he said.
Mr Kirk is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators have appealed for witnesses and dashcam vision of the crash reported to have happened at 7pm.
