A one-stop dog lover’s event brought almost every canine-related service to Barron Waters Park at the weekend in an inaugural event celebrating the joy of man’s best friend.
The FNQ Dogs Day Out Festival offered an opportunity for fun through a super dogs training exhibition and a pooch look-alike competition, and Cairns Regional Council officers also offered more serious advice about the responsible keeping of pets.
Following the success of the event, dog lover and day out organiser Kane Brown said plans were already in place to make the FNQ Dogs Day Out Festival an annual feature of the Cairns spring calendar.
“We had about 50 stalls, North Queensland Animal Rescue, YAPS, RSPCA, Cairns City Kennel Club and the council pet management team,” he said.
“The idea was for owners to get advice and to speak to council about what they are doing right and wrong.
“I love my dog and I love other people’s dogs and that’s why I do it because I love the animals.”
Well-known throughout Cairns as the Festival Guy, Mr Brown said his next event would be the FNQ Barbecue and Brews Festival to be held at the Stratford Soccer Club on November 12.
