The hunt for an escaped prisoner who absconded from a Far North correctional centre has entered its third day with police confirming the man has not yet been located.

On Thursday a Queensland Police spokeswoman said Henry Peters, a 28-year-old prisoner who escaped the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre farm in the early hours of February 7, remained at large.

Peters who set off a manhunt across the Far North, is serving two years for break and enter including violence or threats.

A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman said the department is constantly reassessing the security of correctional centres and the security level of prisoners.

“Every year thousands of prisoners live successfully in low security environments in Queensland, he said.

“Absconds occur occasionally from low security facilities, which place more responsibility on prisoners to abide by the rules of the centre than on physical containment”.

Police urge the public not to approach the man but to contact police immediately.
