The life of a 39-year-old motorcycle mechanic and FIFO worker spiralled quickly into “chaos and crisis” after he turned to meth to cope with a death in the family, a court has heard.

Glenn Fraser Post, 39, appeared in Cairns Magistrates Court via video link from prison last month, where he pleaded guilty to 18 offences committed between July 2024 and March 2025, including drug driving, entering a house – aggravated by being domestic violence offences, wilful damage, obstruct police and 10 counts of breaching bail conditions.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine months’ prison, wholly suspended for 15 months, which took into account the 30 days he had spent in custody on remand.

Defence solicitor Madison Thieme told the court Post was a father and husband who had otherwise lived a “law-abiding” life, working for a long time as a small engine mechanic at local motorcycle and car dealerships, before gaining a second qualification as a diesel mechanic and becoming a FIFO worker.

Post, 39, who pleaded guilty to a domestic violence and drug-related offences worked as a small engine mechanic for years in Cairns before upskilling to work in the mines.

Ms Thieme said Post had worked at Wayne Leonard Motorcycles, Irelands, a sugar mill and as a FIFO worker in Australia and Papua New Guinea before drugs took hold of his life.

After a death in the family, he “dabbled in drugs” to cope with the grief, which escalated to a one gram a day ice habit, Ms Thieme said.

“It’s a demonstration of the wicked effects ice can have,” she told the court.

“He went to prison for the first time and he’d never seen his life going into that kind of direction.”

The court was told Post had entered his long-term ex-partner’s home or carport on three occasions in late 2024 and early 2025, once coming into her bedroom while she slept, and breaking a window by banging on it another time.

His “intimidating” behaviour was aggravated by its “persistence”, the court was told, with Post directing “degrading abuse” towards his former partner for eight months.

He was also caught drug driving and breached his bail 10 times, ultimately ending up remanded in custody for 30 days before sentencing, the court was told.

Magistrate Leanne Scoines said ice was a “pernicious” drug, and noted Post’s behaviour would have been frightening and alarming.

Magistrate Leanne Scoines described ice as a “pernicious drug” and noted that Post had sought help during his downward spiral at a rehabilitation centre and had got clean in prison.

“I accept that being in prison has been a very strong wake-up call for you,” Ms Scoines said.

“There is a very high prevalence of domestic violence in our community and this has a devastating effect on families,” she said.

“You had quite a fixation and very little regard for the impact of your behaviour – it would have been frightening and caused her alarm.”
