Five people — including three children — have been taken to hospital after a car crashed into livestock on a rural road in the Atherton Tablelands, killing one cow and leaving another to be euthanized.
Emergency services were called just after 9.10pm on Friday, July 4, to reports a vehicle had collided with several cows on Malanda Atherton Road.
Paramedics assessed five people at the scene — two adults, a toddler, a teenager and a primary school-aged girl — with the two older children suffering neck pain.
A Queensland Police spokesman said officers have the authority to humanely euthanise animals involved in crashes.
“Local rangers who work for council can also be contacted,” he said.
It is understood the local farmer, whose cows were involved, attended the scene to assist.
“Due to the injuries sustained to the cows, one needed to be euthanised,” the spokesman said.
“One died from the crash.”
All five patients were taken to Atherton Hospital in stable conditions.
