A primary school-aged girl has been treated for smoke inhalation after fire engulfed a second-story building near Innisfail.

Four fire crews and a number of paramedics arrived just after 4.20 am on February 10 to battle the blaze at the rear of a residential building on Johnstone Road in Coquette Point.

Four other patients were assessed on scene.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said there were no significant injuries reported.

“No patients required transport from the scene and no one required further medical attention,” he said.

“Crews were cleared just before 7am.”

The fire was under control by about 5.10am, but not before the ceiling at the rear of the building collapsed.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said the cause of the fire was still unclear.

“Crews have been on scene and have the fire under control,” she said.

“While we don’t know the cause at this stage, a fire investigator will be attending the scene today.”
