Two men aged 21 and 59 are dead after a horror double-drowning at a popular Far North swimming hole.

Two men have died after being pulled unresponsive from a popular Far North swimming hole this afternoon.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of two men at Crystal Cascades around 5pm this afternoon.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police were called to the scene in relation to two swimmers struggling to get out of the water.

The men aged 21 and 59 were located in the water unresponsive and declared deceased a short time later.

There are no suspicious circumstances.

Earlier reports suggested the two swimmers were part of a group of tourists who got into trouble at the well-frequented waterfall.

Around 5.30pm a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said multiple people had been swept away at the popular swimming hole on Tuesday afternoon.

The spokeswoman said one person had been located and was in the hands of paramedics.

“We’re still looking for a second person,” she said.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said one patient was being treated by paramedics and was in a critical condition.

The rescue helicopter was tasked to the incident.

Swiftwater rescue technicians and police are also on scene.
