Emergency crews respond to Smithfield crash between motorcycle and truck

A patient has been rushed to hospital following a truck and motorcycle crash on the Smithfield Bypass.

A patient has been rushed to hospital following a truck and motorcycle crash on Smithfield Bypass at 3.50pm.

Paramedics received a call on Thursday to the Bypass after a 50-year-old man suffered significant injuries following the crash.

The man has been transported to Cairns Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“From what’s been reported, it sounds like there are multiple injuries, including a significant injury to the leg and injuries to the abdomen,” a QAS spokeswoman said.

“It happened approximately 1km from the intersection with Captain Cook Hwy and Yorkeys Knob Rd.”

Police were also on scene at 4pm.

“The forensic crash unit is on its way,” a police spokesman said.

“The patient is on their way to hospital.”
