A Far North Queensland metal fabricator has been remembered as a big-hearted larrikin after he fell 20m from a tower and died.

Daniel Squillari, a contracted staffer working on the Proserpine Wind Farm project, arrived at the Whitsunday-based site last Friday to help build a met mast when tragedy struck.

The 34-year-old father of two fell 20m after the wind measuring tower he was working on collapsed.

Fellow workmates at the remote site began CPR until paramedics arrived.

Mr Squillari tragically succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene near the Peter Faust Dam.

A longtime Innisfail resident, Mr Squillari, known as Squirrel, began his boilermaker and welding career with Norweld in Cairns before securing a position at Sundown Engineering in Innisfail to complete his training as a young man.

Former owners of the Edith St business Ian and Michelle Coubrough said Squirrel was a skilled aluminium welder and a hard worker.

“He was a very loving family man,” Ms Coubrough said.

“He was a hard-working person and he was very good at what he did.”

The big-hearted larrikin was known for his huge personality and unwavering love for his family.

The tight-knit community of Innisfail has rallied behind Mr Squillari’s partner Tamara and their two children.

Ms Squillari was inundated with more than 450 condolence messages offering emotional support and heartfelt sympathy.

“His love and light will forever live on in our hearts and thank you for all your love and support,” Ms Squillari wrote.

All operations have been suspended at the Lake Proserpine worksite while Workplace Health and Safety Queensland investigates the accident.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
