A PORT Douglas dive business owner has been left reeling by an “unusual and nasty crime” that has left a company vehicle completely out of action.

Overnight on Wednesday a Blue Dive Port Douglas van was parked on Morning Close when vandals allegedly struck.

Business owner Mark Fraenkel said black paint was allegedly poured across the windscreen, the vehicle’s tyres were slashed and dangerously coated in lubricant.

“Smearing oil on the tyres is potentially dangerous, it must be one fairly crazed person to do that and slash the tyres,” he said.

“Who does that kind of thing?

“I can’t imagine it’s a competitor, we all have an interest in the town doing well.”

The incident was reported to police on Thursday who dispatched a forensic team to investigate.

Mr Fraenkel said police were taking the vandalism “very seriously.”

“The police have been very good, they sent a team out to forensically look at it,” he said.

“Port Douglas is such a small town, things like this don’t happen very often.”

Police told the Cairns Post the incident was currently under investigation and charges in relation to the incident were yet to be laid.

Mr Fraenkel urged anyone with information about the vandalism to contact police.
