Four females arrested in alleged stolen car after dramatic pursuit

A dramatic end to a police pursuit of an alleged stolen Toyota Corolla came to an end at a quiet suburban street when a tyre stinger deployment led to the arrest of four females.

Alleged stolen car arrests

A dramatic end to a police pursuit of an alleged stolen Toyota Corolla came to an end at a quiet suburban street when a successful tyre stinger deployment led to the arrest of four females on Wednesday.

According to police three women aged 18, 19 and 29 along with a 16-year-old girl were arrested in Kipling St, Brinsmead after being located in an alleged stolen car.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a unit in Gatton St Manunda was broken into via the rear door, police allege.

Several items were allegedly stolen including car keys to a vehicle parked in front of the residence that was also taken.

At around 12.20pm on Wednesday, officers from the Tactical Crime Squad successfully

deployed a tyre deflation device stinging the alleged stolen car in Brinsmead.

Police allege the driver continued to drive the car before coming to a stop in Kipling St and four females were arrested in the vehicle.

An 18-year-old Manoora woman was charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving tainted property.

A 29-year-old Mooroobool woman was charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and receiving tainted property.

A 19-year-old Manoora woman was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

All three women were bailed with strict conditions and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 24.

A 16-year-old Parramatta Park girl was charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor

vehicle and one count of stealing.

She was bailed with strict conditions and will appear in the

Cairns Childrens Court at a later date.

Armed robbery, Manoora

A 16-year-old Manoora boy was arrested on Wednesday in relation to an alleged armed

robbery of a Reservoir Rd convenience store.

Police alleged around 8.30pm on June 7 the boy entered the store with two others

armed with a knife and screwdriver, stealing the till drawer and cigarettes.

On Wednesday officers from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch executed a search warrant at a Jensen St, Manoora address arresting the boy.

The 16-year-old Manoora boy was charged with one count each of robbery, unlawful use of a

motor vehicle, receiving tainted property and burglary.

Police opposed the boys bail, and he will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.

Investigations are continuing.

TUESDAY’ NEWS

Arrest, armed robbery Cairns City

A 17-year-old White Rock boy has been charged with 18 offences following the execution of a search warrant at a Bentley Park residence on Tuesday.

The boy was charged by detectives following investigations into a number of outstanding offences allegedly committed between May 30 and June 7 in the suburbs of Cairns City, Gordonvale, Edmonton, Woree, Cairns North and Bentley Park.

About 8.35pm on June 4 it will be alleged the boy alighted from a stolen car and made an attempt to steal a purse from a woman walking on Abbott Street. The woman was pulled to the ground as she attempted to stop the theft. The boy allegedly stole the woman’s purse before running back to the stolen car.

The boy was also charged with the alleged theft of a bag from a woman seated outside an Abbott Street

restaurant only minutes earlier.

It will be further alleged the 17-year-old was involved in a robbery at Reservoir Road convenience store on June 6. At around 8.30pm he allegedly entered the store with his face covered and in the company of two other males. The boy was allegedly armed with a screwdriver and stole the entire till draw and cigarettes.

Investigations are continuing.

Teens arrested car theft

Officers from the Property Crime Squad arrested three teenagers after they were located not far from a stolen vehicle in Gordonvale on Tuesday.

The located Holden dual cab was allegedly stolen from a Charnley Ave residence at Bentley Park on May 6.

Officers located a 14-year-old Gordonvale boy and two boys aged 16 and 17 years both from

Yarrabah, at a residence nearby to the stolen vehicle. It will be alleged the teens were in possession of keys for the stolen Holden along with keys for two other vehicles alleged to have been stolen from Port Douglas.

The trio were allegedly involved in a number of offences committed between June 5 and June 7 in Gordonvale, Port Douglas, Bentley Park and Yarrabah.

The 14-year-old was charged with burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted

property and unlicensed driving. His bail was refused.

The 17-year-old was charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of burglary, three counts of unlicensed driving and one count of stealing. He was released on strict bail conditions to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court later this month.

TUESDAY’S NEWS

Serious domestic violence charges

Officers from the Vulnerable Persons Investigations team have charged a 23-year-old Westcourt man following investigations into the alleged serious assault of a woman known to him outside a Mount Sheridan residence on June 1.

It will be alleged the woman was repeatedly assaulted by the man when she refused to go inside the residence.

The victim sustained severe bruising and swelling to her body along with a facial injury that later required surgery.

The 23-year-old man left the scene after police were called.

On June 4, he was located, taken into police custody and charged with domestic violence related offences of strangulation, common assault and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

His bail was refused. The matter is expected to go before the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 3.

Marine incident

Three adults and two children aged 8 and 14 had a lucky escape after their boat started to sink in waters between Badu Island and Thursday Island at 10am on June 4.

Police commenced a search and rescue operation after they received a call from a family member.

The occupants of the boat used life jackets after their boat started to take on water.

The group was located by the rescue helicopter and conveyed to safety at Horn Island by the Water Police.

Fortunately, no-one was injured.

The incident highlights the importance of carrying safety equipment on-board and letting someone know when you are leaving and when you expect to return.

Vessel owners and operators must ensure their boat is always operated in a safe manner.

MONDAY’S NEWS

Pedestrian vehicle incident Manunda

A young boy under the age of ten has been taken to Cairns Hospital after he was hit by a car on the corner of Koch Street and Alfred Street about 3.50pm. A QAS spokeswoman said the boy accidentally ran in front of the car and was taken to hospital with some back pain and grazes to his arm and face.

Pedestrian vehicle incident Cairns City

Another young boy was also taken to Cairns Hospital earlier in the afternoon after being hit by a car about 3.25pm on Water Street. A QAS spokeswoman said the young male was under ten but was taken to hospital as a precautionary with no major injury.

Manoora unit fire

QFES reported smoke was seen issuing from an apartment window at Pioneer St in Manoora at 3:40pm.

A bystander alerted QFES of a possible fire at 3.30pm when they heard a smoke alarm. Two fire crews arrived at the scene at 3:40pm and extinguished the source of the smoke.

One fire crew has remained at the scene to assist with ventilation.

QFES has not reported that anyone was present in the apartment at the time of the fire.

It is not yet known what caused the fire.

Robbery with violence, Cairns City

In a significant escalation of violent crime on the streets of Cairns City alleged offenders have targeted diners and pedestrians by snatching bags and absconding in a stolen car.

Cairns detectives are investigating the thefts of two handbags in the CBD on Saturday night.

At around 8.30pm a stolen white Honda HRV pulled up in Abbott St before a man got out of the car and scoped out diners at a nearby restaurant.

A woman seated outside a restaurant was approached from behind and the man allegedly grabbed her bag then fled and escaped in the stolen car.

The Honda HRV has Queensland registration 812 EF6.

A short time later another woman was walking across Abbott St when she was approached

from behind by a man who allegedly attempted to grab her purse and phone.

The woman was dragged to the ground as she fought off her attacker.

The offender grabbed the woman’s yellow purse and fled in the same stolen car.

The man is described as being of First Nations appearance with a light brown

complexion, black hair, about 175cm tall and a medium build.

The Honda hatchback was stolen from Mooroobool unit on June 3.

Police investigations are continuing, anyone with information regarding the offences or location of the stolen vehicle is urged to contact Policelink or Crimestoppers and use this reference: QP2200933548.
