CARAVAN park visitors saw a bit more than they expected when two cassowaries were captured mating in the middle of a popular destination.
On Sunday morning a crowd gathered around Etty Bay Caravan Park to see the unusual sight with a mixture of responses.
A man in the video can be heard saying, “they are just warming each other up”.
While a woman explained the situation to a child by saying, “they are just a bit cold”.
Etty Bay Caravan Park regional manager Yeyan Dela Cruz said although they see cassowaries daily that was something she had never before seen.

“I have seen them chasing each other, but this is something new,” she said.
The caravan park is known for its regular sightings of cassowaries.
“They are quite regular here,” she said.
“We usually see them in the early mornings and in the afternoons. We see one every day.
“There are two to three regular birds that always come back to the park and beach area.”
Ms Dela Cruz said the cassowaries were always a crowd pleaser.

“Most of our guests right from making a booking they ask how often they see the cassowaries or the best time they can be spotted,” she said.
“They are very interested in them.”
Cassowaries mate during the breeding season which is from June to October.
Ms Dela Cruz said the cassowaries were definitely not shy when they roam around the Etty Bay area.
