A Cairns writer has released her second book aimed to be an uplifting tale that shows the power of forgiveness.

Julietta Henderson’s new book Sincerely, Me is about a 39-year-old named Danny Mulberry whose life changes in an instant.

“It’s about a guy, its set in London. He’s a bit of a no-hoper, he lives in his best friend’s garden shed, he’s got no family, he can’t keep down a job,” Ms Henderson said.

“One day after a big night out a photo of him appears in one of the big newspapers.”

Ms Henderson said the photo of him reflects him as someone wise and people, including his estranged niece, start to think he could have the answers to their life problems,.

“She seeks him out because her mother has a lot of mental health issues. The story goes, one week he‘s responsibility-free,” she said.

“The next week he’s an uncle, he’s a brother and a bit of a guru to people around the country.”

Ms Henderson said the book aimed to share a few messages.

“I think it’s about the power of forgiveness really and stepping forward into fear, into the unknown, making a choice,” she said.

“I wanted to show a journey or transformation.

“Everything Danny had to dig deep and find was already within him, it took trying to understand other people’s problems to discover it.”

Ms Henderson said it touches on relationships a lot.

“I wanted to write about sibling relationships because I find it interesting, the thought where you are the position of your family really affects the rest of your life,” she said.

“It’s about second chances and we all sort of at some stage in our life we are standing at a crossroads.

“The relationship between the uncle and niece. It’s a redemptive story.”

Ms Henderson said she wanted to write a story about the people that surround or love someone with depression.

“I think the things I enjoy about writing, what I want to invoke in the reader, I love making people laugh, and also making people cry and have a bit of a think,” she said.

“What I am writing, it has been labelled as an uplift.”

The book is set in the UK but Ms Henderson said her childhood in the Far North does have an influence on her writing.

“It’s quite a different upbringing there, I grew up in Kuranda, I had a free upbringing growing up in the rainforest,” she said.

“Growing up in Cairns has nurtured my creativity.”

After working in publishing for years, Ms Henderson released her first book The Funny Thing about Norman Foreman at the start of last year.

She now has no plans to stop working on her books.

“That’s where I was really validated with my creative writing, because I was called a creative writer,” she said.

“Getting to work in print, it does make you think it’s possible. I’ve always been writing my own books in the background, working there gave me confidence.”
