PERFECT weather should arrive just in time for Fathers Day outdoor events including Carnival on Collins with rain expected to ease making way for a sunny day.
Bureau of Meteorology media officer Brooke Pagel said the rain should ease by Saturday afternoon.
“We have a weak trough over the Coral Sea and it’s approaching the north tropical coast today so it’s pushing the moisture on shore,” she said.
“That trough is going to move back off shore from Saturday. So we will have showers easing from then.”
Ms Pagel said Fathers Day would be sunny with a maximum of 27C in Cairns, 24C in Atherton and 24C in Mareeba.
On Monday and Tuesday she said it would be partly cloudy.
“Now that the temperatures are ramping on up, its going to bring that humidity up, and really feel like spring,” she said.
“Especially with the showers this weekend, people will really start to feel it.”
Ms Pagel said even though Sunday would be sunny, the Far North could expect showers throughout the week.
“By the looks of the long term all through next week, there is another trough and rain but that is going to the south of the state so Cairns might not experience it,” she said.
“Maybe just a drizzle or shower or two during the week, your 1-2mm, typically what you see in spring.”
