Cairns vaccination vouchers: Cazalys, Brothers, Mareeba RSL and clubs offer $10 meal deal

Unvaccinated punters will soon be rolling sleeves and loosening belt buckles following a decision to trade jabs for club vouchers across the Far North.

UNVACCINATED punters will soon be rolling sleeves and loosening belt buckles following a decision to trade jabs for club vouchers across the Far North.

The race to 80 per cent vaccination has just got a spring in its step with the State Government rolling out $20,000 worth of meal vouchers for selected clubs across the region.

Cairns MP Michael Healy said if the fact vaccinations saved lives was not enough to convince people to get the jab, perhaps a $10 voucher would prod them across the line.

“It’s another reason to get vaccinated,” he said.

“Getting the jab means you’re 80 per cent less likely to get Covid and pass it on.

“It’s time to roll up your sleeve, get the jab and then roll up to your local club and have a feed.”

Cazalys general manager Jason Wale said the group’s three clubs – Cazalys, South Cairns Sports Club and Trinity Beach Sports Club – were all on board.

“We will be giving out 250 vouchers per club,” he said.

“We’re happy to support the community and the government in rolling out this worthy program.”

There is a minor hitch – the vouchers are only for meals and cannot be used for alcohol or gambling.

Still, lining one’s stomach is very important during any respectable club session.

Clubs Queensland CEO Kelly Egan encouraged everyone to get on board.

“Getting vaccinated is the best thing Queenslanders can do to keep safe and healthy and keep our community connected,” he said.

“Community Clubs connect everyone and as an industry, we’re happy to support our community by encouraging people to get vaccinated”.

A total of 2000 vouchers will be offered across the Far North at:

■ Cazalys

■ South Cairns Sports Club

■ Trinity Beach Sports Club

■ Brothers Leagues Club Cairns

■ Cairns RSL

■ Mareeba Leagues Club

■ Mossman Memorial Bowls Club

■ Douglas Community and Sports Club

The vouchers will be offered for first doses of the vaccine only and available upon exit from the vaccination hub.

The rollout will start on Thursday, November 4.

Vaccination rates in the Cairns and Far North area for first doses were 77.5 per cent and 65.6 per cent for second doses as of October 30.
