Stolen Cars in Cairns

An Uber driver has been left unable to go to work after his car and livelihood was stolen, creating chaos on the streets of Cairns.

Cairns resident David Kennedy described the dismay he felt after seeing and hearing about what the people driving his car have been doing.

“There were over 50 reports on the Cairns crime group detailing incidents about how people had to ring triple-0 and they detailed near misses, dangerous driving and one poor lady got rammed,” he said.

“I was horrified at what I was reading as to what the occupants of my car were doing as they were travelling pretty much all over Cairns. The stories that seem to indicate it was being driven at different times by different people.”

But the greatest concern for Mr Kennedy was that someone was going to get seriously injured or killed.

“I am now without a vehicle and unable to obtain an income as I am a full-time Uber driver,” he said.

He’s now trying to get back on the road as soon as possible.

“There’s a lot of variables and until Monday when the police assess the vehicle, I won’t know what my options are,” he said.

“One of the guys who’s a member of an Uber group believes he is able to source a vehicle that I will be able to lease.”

A Queensland Police spokesman on Sunday morning confirmed no-one had been charged.
