Cairns crime: Man charged after incident at Cairns CBD hotel

A man is due to face court following an alleged incident that occurred at the front of a Cairns CBD hotel on Monday afternoon.

UPDATE, 2PM TUESDAY: A 48-year-old Biloela man has been given notice to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on a charge of committing public nuisance.

The man is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on May 18.

This follows an incident that unfolded outside the Mantra Trilogy on Abbott Street about 5.30pm on Monday.

A police spokesman said the man was allegedly seen loitering at the front of the area, annoying patrons and residents and threatening bystanders.

The 48-year-old was then taken to Cairns Hospital with head injuries. A Cairns Hinterland and Hospital Health Service spokeswoman said the man was discharged on Tuesday.

UPDATE 7.40PM: A MAN has been taken to hospital following an alleged assault in front of a busy Cairns hotel.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the man appeared to have suffered head injuries.

The man was transported to Cairns Hospital just after 7pm.

EARLIER 7.00PM: DRAMATIC scenes are unfolding at the front of a hotel in the middle of Cairns CBD after a suspected assault.

A police spokesman said they were called to the Mantra Trilogy on Abbott Street about 5.30pm after a fight broke out between two people.

One man suffered significant injuries to their head whilst another man has been taken into custody.

The Mantra Trilogy has closed the door on Abbott Street but access is still open on the side and the hotel is operating as normal.

Police remain on scene with the patient. Paramedics arrived about 6.45pm.
